Safer internet Day 2017
Today, more than 120 countries worldwide, including all 28 countries of the European Union, along with many organisational supporters, are celebrating Safer Internet Day (SID) for the fourteenth consecutive year. Initiated under the European Commission’s Safer Internet Programme and now continuing under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which co-funds Safer Internet Centres in the member states, the day marks an annual opportunity to engage in making the internet a safer and better place for our children and young people.
UN E-Government Survey 2016: Barbados is the 1st among the Caribbean countries
The "United Nations E-Government Survey 2016: E-Government in Support of Sustainable Development" was launched in July 2016. There has been a sharp rise in the number of countries that are using e-government to provide public services online through one stop-platforms – an approach that makes it easier to access public services. In 2003, only 45 countries had a one-stop-platform, and only 33 countries provided online transactions. According to the 2016 Survey, 90 countries now offer one or more single entry portal on public information or online services, or both and 148 countries provide at least one form of online transactional services. Barbados is the 1st among the Caribbean countries.
